How to sponsor one individual child :
We do not encourage sponsorship of one child, because
all the  orphans are treated equally and  loved equally.
We never want any ONE child to ever feel "less than" another.
It is not the monastic way, God loves us all equally.

Thank you for your kind donation and your prayers.
~ ~ ~ Neither will we exploit orphans and show children
with big bellies and flies, they exsist in the world,
we all know this, however we don't need to exploit their suffering, That is not GODLY. ~ ~ ~
Any and all donations are  transferred directly to Gethesemani's bank account in Addis Ababa under
the supervision of our Holy Mother EmaHoy Fikerte Mariam Bekele - Head Nun
Any questions please email us at : monasticlife@debreberhanselassiechurch.org
If you wish to send money directly to the Bank Account in Addis we can provide you with the
account and routing info,  God Bless You.

EmaHoy Fikerte Mariam Bekele - Head Nun
GETESEMANI Monastery (Nunnery) is on over 40 acres of beautiful land that was once the retreat of Empress Menen the wife of Emperor Haile Selassie.  Empress Menen donated the Palace for the establishment of an orphanage that was to be operated by Orthodox Nuns.

Some children are orphaned due to Ethnic, Tribal Wars, or Disease.
All children are taken in regardless of ethnic, tribal or religious background
These orphans would otherwise live in the streets begging for  food and not being educated.

Today Getesemani is unique in that the orphans do not sleep in a dormitory.  They are divided into groups of 4 to 6 and live and sleep in the same house with a "Nun Mother", who cares for them.  This gives them a sense of family and belonging.

Over 250 Orphans are currently living at Getesemani Monastery.
Children ranging in ages from infancy to 18 yrs old.  They are educated until 18 yrs old at the monastery school; which also educates the local children living outside the monastery.  After graduating they're assisted in entering university as well as finding jobs in the future.

With your help we hope to take even more children off the streets and care for them.

DEBRE BERHAN SELASSIE  BUILDING PROJECT and GENERAL DBS MONASTERY PROJECTS

One of DBS's long term goals are to be a completely "green-earth friendly" monastery.

We hope to achieve that by:
First locating the perfect property location and by building green living units in the Ethiopian tradition, for our Ethiopian monks to live in.

Also by utilizing reclaimed items and green technology such as Solar Energy, Rain Water Collection, etc.

The aim is to be "Off the Grid" and self sufficient, leaving the monastic's free to concentrate on Holy Prayers and to teach serving the Orthodox community.
God created this earth and beautiful gardens for us to live in.  It is our responsibility to respect it and  care for it.

If you have questions or if the Lord has inspired you to give assistance to us, please email us at address below.
